It’s the morning of the 28th and I’m remembering 16 years ago at just about this time, when Spencer Carlyle Wood made his appearance in the world. It was a long night and an exhausted day, but we were all so happy to have him here! He was cute, creative, and funny as a little boy. And he grew up to just as cute, creative, and funny. It’s hard to believe it’s been sixteen years! Happy Birthday, Spencer! Read More →
So, I’m officially 24 years old (that’s not a typo, is it??). It’s feeling good to be back in my 20′s. I’d forgotten how carefree and happy I was. Why did I ever leave my 20′s? I had it all figured out back then – I knew how to be the best mom and the best wife and keep my house perfectly and make excellent meals. What have all these intervening years given me?? Seriously, it has been an uneventful day so far – the homeschooling thing has been a major downer today. The novelty must have worn off, because Andrew has fought me tooth and nail today (and we’ve only gotten through math and handwriting). Or maybe he just wants to ruin my “big day” (a little passive aggressive behavior maybe?) Anyhow, I’ve had lots of people wish me well, which is so nice. ...
So, yesterday Spencer turned 15. That seems awfully old for a mom as young as I am!! Unlike some people (don’t look at me!) Spencer didn’t assume that just because it was his birthday he didn’t have to go to school or seminary – of course, he was probably hoping for lots of attention from the girls and didn’t want to miss it! Anyhow, he had some friends over for a BBQ (Tom provided the goods) while I took the little kids away for a few hours. I came home to find the boys on their way out to skateboard – Spencer’s friends pitched in together and got Spence a board. I can feel some skating sessions with the Uncles in his future. It’s hard to believe the handsome young man above started out as such a darling baby. It’s been a wonderful ride – full of ups and downs. The...
I don’t even know where to start – and my sister, Erin, has already done a terrific job documenting all the significant events in our extended family – so… I’ll try and talk about some of the things our family has done lately. I took Andrew and Haley out to Utah a few weeks ago to help my mom with some home improvement projects. I had a lot of fun – it’s nice to do something like this when you don’t have to take care of all the regular chores too! But, talk about tired! Saturday (we arrived on Wed.) I just sat around and napped. I was feeling 40 for sure! A highlight of my trip was visiting my good friend, Shannon Simmons. She and her family moved to Woods Cross last year. She was my walking buddy and personal therapist!! I have sooo missed her this past year. She met us...
So, I’m officially 40 years old now! It was a crazy day. I spent the whole morning like so: 7-9am – clean up the kids rooms and the upstairs bathroom (with help from the kids) 9:30am – take Andy to piano lessons 10:30am - take Haley to her soccer game and co-coach the game (we won! and Haley made a goal! from a pass – which we have been working on in practices) 11:45 – take Andy to buy a birthday gift and then drop him at his birthday party 12:30-2pm - clean the house and do laundry – this includes cleaning out all the tools that we have had in our bedroom due to the on-going tiling project 2:15pm – pick up Andy 3:30pm – finally get a shower and sit down to relax a little 5pm – people start arriving for the party that Tom threw me (with much insistence on my part!!) The Party People...
