So – it’s time to update the blog (my motivation for writing) Last weekend my parents, siblings, and all kids (with the exception of my youngest brother, Andrew, who was on business in Germany – lucky dog, but we missed him!) got together for our 1st “Joe and Pam Cottle Reunion” (there’s got to be a better name than that.  Suggestions, anyone??).  I’d give a run-down on all the happenings, but fortunately for me, my dad did an excellent job on that front already.  See the family links on the right?  Pick the one named “Mom & Dad” and enjoy the awesomeness!  I will just state here that my favorite parts of the weekend were the museum (especially, since it seemed to be a hit with everyone) and Tom’s burgers (we’re thinking maybe we should open a hamburger stand as our...

So, the tiling work is finished (except for sealing the grout, which won’t change the look at all).  Here’s some pictures. Now we just need to sand all the wood and do some painting – we’re thinking white trim paint.  So, what do you think??  Read More →

Despite the prodigious amounts of snow that fell last week, the snow was pretty much gone by Saturday (gotta love Denver weather!) and now we’re having another snowy day (though the forecast is for a measly 2-6 inches).  I personally am glad to have the snow – I’ve missed it this winter – but it is a little odd in April. On a completely different note, Tom and I decided we had waited long enough to tile the garden window in our kitchen.  So Tom pulled out the belt sander and evened out the “floor” while I broke up left over tile from previous projects.  Along the way we figured out how to remove the windows from their tracks (so we can paint them).  Then we laid out a wavy line of tumbled glass and flat glass “beads” (the kind you use in vases – I think).  Then we laid out the mud...

Click for fullsize So, I tried to post this earlier and had trouble with pictures and then lost my whole post. It’s been a few days, so I thought I’d try it again. Three weeks ago we redid the upstairs bathroom (see first post for a little bit about why). So now we’re working on the bathroom in our bedroom. Here are some pictures of the project, mid-renovation. (Yes, we’re still waiting to put the toilet back in!!). So – the bedroom is a total mess (dust everywhere! It’s driving me crazy). There are tools scattered everywhere and extension cords, not to mention the big boxes full of toilet parts and such. We’re hoping to have it all finished up tonight – how nice not to have to trek down the stairs for midnight bathroom trips!! So, ifyou’re in town, come see our handyman skills!!  Read More →

Well, we’ve made it through another conference weekend, and all children are alive!  I made conference bags with stuff to do for each of the kids – the stuff lasted about one and half hours and then Andy started crying because we wouldn’t let him get up and leave.  Fun times at our house!  Seriously, though, I really enjoyed this conference.  There were some great talks and I came away feeling so grateful for the apostles and the prophet – for their varied personalities, for their humor, and kindness, and willingness to address serious topics in such careful ways.  I’m grateful, like Pres. Eyring, for belonging to the true and living church. Tom and I have been working on the upstairs hall bathroom.  We tiled the floor, and then replaced the counter top with one of those integrated sink jobbies – oh...
