I’m still alive!

It’s been a slow six weeks since Christmas (or is that closer to eight weeks?).  We’re not doing anything exciting like training for a marathon! or finishing up our last semester of school or anything remotely interesting.  So it’s hard to know what to post (and I’m pretty miserable at posting pictures!).  One newsworthy thing occurred last weekend – Spencer had his wisdom teeth pulled.  (Yes, he is only 14 years old and yes, that is young.  However, he already had one tooth through the gum and another just about ready to break through.  And we already spent some bucks on braces, and really didn’t want to go through that again!).  So, they put him out (very weird) and pumped him full of pain killers and he came through with flying colors.  Hardly any swelling.  Friday (they day they pulled them) he was sick to his stomach (I’m guessing the anesthesia?).  Saturday he played on his x-box with his buddies most of the day.  Sunday he didn’t feel so great and spent all afternoon in bed (he did go to church, though).  By Monday he was eating regular food.

This week we began the February “off-track” break for Andrew and Haley.  They will be out of school for the next three weeks.  I don’t usually look forward to these breaks.  This time I signed them up for swimming lessons.  It’s really only an hour a week, but hopefully the routine of having somewhere to go will help.  I thought I would be able to maybe get some grocery shopping done now that they are home.  However, I took them shopping for tennis shoes yesterday – we spent 15 minutes in the store – and I wanted to wring Andrew’s neck by the time we got back in the car.  I don’t know how he does it – but he makes me feel crazy in stores.  He’s always doing something different and annoying.  Yesterday he was doing little jigs and dance steps which took him blindly into the path of other shoppers.  I’m sure those people were thinking “what is it with that mom that she hasn’t taught her kid some manners??”  Some kids don’t want to learn manners, is all I have to say!!  Some kids can’t even grasp the idea of manners!!  I am enjoying not having to get up and get everyone going, so there is that.

Last night Sarah, Cynthia, Jennifer, and I went out to dinner and a movie to celebrate the “half-birthday” of Jennifer, since we missed it last summer.  It was really enjoyable to have a “girls night out”.  We saw “Confessions of a Shopaholic” which was surprisingly entertaining and clean (aside from a couple of questionable clothing choices).  I might have to take Tom to see it.

Well – that’s the update.  I’m being pressured to get on Facebook, but I’m telling you right now – it’s not happening in the forseeable future.  I’m already spending way too much time on LibraryThing and FamilySearch.  I don’t need another web-based timesink!!

sure, there is nothing “cool” about facebook, but if you want an easy way to reconnect with people then its the perfect solution and takes little to no time.

glad you gals could go out and have a good time, I know sarah needed some time away from the kids!
