The “Refinish the Floors” Project

Tom & I finally took the plunge and had the wood floors refinished in our house.  Since there was little or no finish in the eating area of our kitchen, it was high time, but we’ve been waiting to be in a more secure financial situation.  We decided while we were at it, we would add some wood to the main traffic areas of the house, basically linking the wood floors in our home.  The small wood “pad” at the entrance and the wood hallway to the laundry and garage were separated by carpeting.  Now we have a straight shot from the front door to the kitchen and down the short steps to the wood hallway.  It looks really nice!

This picture shows where the carpet used to be.

Here you can see it replaced in wood.

We had a slight problem as the only access to either the upstairs or basement was across these wood floors. Spencer climbed in and out of the basement windows and Tom brought in a ladder that we used to access the upstairs (we could enter the house through our sliding glass door around back.

The kids particularly liked climbing up and down the ladder!

The floors took about three times as long as projected and we all got pretty sick of eating out. But now the floors are beautiful!

Installed and stained but not yet finished. Note the fridge in our dining room!

The new wood stairs …

The best part is now we don’t have that ugly carpet that is always dirty – just pretty floors!
