Back to Work

Well – Tom is going back to work on Monday. He’s got a six-month contract with IBM in Boulder. Here’s hoping the work is interesting and the commute isn’t too heinous!

Since he was offered the job, Tom has done the following:

Helped his mom clear the barn behind her house. This involved hiring a roll-away dumpster and then proceeding to fill it with a life-time’s worth of stuff that had outlived its usefulness. Of course, there was a fair bit of sorting to do – some of the stuff was still wanted. Tom came back home with a stiff shoulder from all the work! He also came home with some mementos and a feeling of a job completed.

Remodeled Spencer’s bed to accommodate a full-size mattress. For those of you who are acquainted with Spencer’s bedroom, you may now be asking “how exactly can you fit a full-size bed in there??” Rest assured, it can be done – and there is still room to walk around! Spencer has greatly enjoyed the extra room to stretch out – and Andrew profited too – he now has two twin mattresses stacked on each other and his bed is a normal height. He likes the extra bounciness of his bed!

Worked on a huge frame for the print that Weston made for us this summer. He bought the wood, cut the miters, routed the edge to hold glass — then could not find clamps big enough to hold it together during the gluing process. Finally he used some tie-down straps we have. He rabbited the joints, glued them, set the frame together on the ground, and ran the strap all around the edge of the frame. It worked, but now he has to sand and paint. Hope he finds some time to do this after work??

Six months (minus a few weeks of contract work) has been a long time to be home. I have loved the company but haven’t really been able to enjoy it for all the stress of being out of work. I’m going to miss him during the day, but it has been a relief to not worry about making ends meet. A big thanks to everyone who has helped us out. You know who you are (especially Mom & Dad) and we are sooo appreciative. You were answers to our prayers.
