A Surprise Night in Town

Tom & I had a surprise night in downtown Denver last night.   My brother, Andrew, had a free night at the Westin Hotel and very kindly gave it to us (he thought he had to pay us back or something for watching his kids last weekend!).  It was so fun to have a random get-away.  To avoid parking, we rode the light-rail downtown and took the free 16th St. Mall bus right to the hotel.  Very luxurious place!  I should have taken pictures!  But here are a couple from their website:

Our room was very comfortable and had a terrific view of downtown.  We took advantage of being downtown to visit “The Old Spaghetti Factory” (which we never get to eat at because it is so far away).  The hotel is located on Lawrence St., which is where the restaurant is also – just a couple of blocks away on 18th.  But we were totally oblivious and walked about eight blocks down 17th before asking someone where Lawrence St. was.  Back eight blocks and then down the street to eat.  We felt stupid but at least we worked up an appetite!  Afterwards we walked down 16th St. Mall – very happening place if you enjoy club-hopping.  We did get stopped by a couple of girls from Food Network/HGTV.  They wanted to videotape us explaining why we love their channels.  So – maybe you’ll see us on t.v. (but we hope not!).  Finally we decided that we’d just kick back watching the awesomely big t.v. on the comfy king-size bed.  It was nice to sleep uninterrupted by kids wanting to be fed and otherwise entertained.  Thanks, Andrew & Sarah, for giving us such a pleasant break!
