Beautiful Music

Last Sunday Spencer made his first appearance in church playing the cello.  Jen Cottle, who is currently in charge of music for her ward (congregation), asked Spencer if he would prepare a hymn to play.  He really didn’t want to do it, but Tom and I ganged up on him.   Originally Tom thought he would play the Ensemble part, but eventually we all decided to ask Spencer’s teacher to come and play with him.  I had the dubious honor of accompanying on the piano.  My piano is pretty rusty, sorry to say.  I worked on the piece (and it really wasn’t that challenging) and felt that I could do a decent job of it.  Don’t discount the effect of “performance”.  I started out beautifully and then started shaking!!  At one point I thought, “can I really make it through this whole piece??” (and it was totally not that long!).  Interestingly enough, Spencer says he had a very similar experience.  Neither of us was too happy with our performances – thank heavens for Ms. Barb Seaton who is a professional and plays like one!!  Still, Spencer wants to play again, in our ward this time.  Me?  I’m not so sure!
