The Bathroom Makeover

So, I’m terrible at taking before pictures… But I have some after pictures of the master bathroom makeover.  A little background. Our master bath is a little “L” off the master bedroom. Originally there was a half wall between the bathroom and the bedroom. There was a standard cabinet with a pink Formica top, and broken drawers (one of which interfered with the drain on one of the sinks).  When we moved in, I hung a curtain over the half wall to give a little separation between bath and bedroom.  It was lame.  Oh, and the bathroom had carpet in it. We pulled up the carpet and tiled, and I stained the cabinet so the bathroom looked a little better (which is good because it’s basically part of the room).  The shower was plain square tiles with a tiled bench that was always cold.

Eight years later, the shower had developed a leak where the grout had come out, and we had a small hole in the kitchen ceiling (below the bathroom).  We tried to keep water from spraying at that part of the shower.  It was obviously time to do some repairs.  But Tom and I both thought if we were going to fix it, we should take care of all the annoying things about the bathroom as well.

So that’s what I did with this year’s tax return…

The wall to the side of this dresser is new. There’s still a doorway, but I could put in a door now.

The new cabinet (no pink Formica – yay!).  My cat likes to sit in the sinks… She’s weird!

Love the penny tile and new glass door.  The space feels much bigger now.

No more cold tile bench …

I love the niches in the wall instead of a shelf that sticks out.

Not the best picture, but here’s the new door.

And one more of the new tile floor. I love the bigger size compared to the 12×12 size we had in here before.

Ten years ago I would have probably done most of this myself, and there’s a part of me that wishes I had done more (like the tiling, because I know I’m a more careful tile cutter than the guys who did the work) but it was nice to just have most of it done for me.  I’m still working on finishing the painting in the room (because I repainted the bathroom so of course I have to paint the rest of the room too!) but it is nice to have something beautiful to see in the mornings.

I’ve just caught up on your blog today—so many great posts! But I must gush about your bathroom, it’s gorgeous!!! I’m so happy for you. 🙂 It sounds like you are quite the handy girl—that’s a wonderful quality to have! I need to learn how to do some of those handy-dandy things myself! 😉
