30 Day Challenge – Met!

Have you ever had that experience of reading a book and even when you aren’t reading it, you keep thinking about the story or the ideas that you have been reading about?  Some books are more attention getting than others, but a really good story can have me thinking about it for days.

I had that experience with The Book of Mormon this past month.  I’ve decided that partly it was because I was reading such large chunks of the book at one sitting.  Somehow, just reading a chapter a day, it is easy to put it aside and not think of what I’ve been reading.  Reading all of 3rd Nephi in a couple of days, I found myself thinking on the scenes of Christ’s visit to the Americas – of the things he taught and how he gathered the people to feel his wounds and to be healed and blessed.  I got a sense of the bigger picture, not just bits and pieces of his teachings spread out over a whole month.

It was a rewarding experience and I highly recommend it!  My only trouble was not having any breaks scheduled in.  I got behind a couple of times – two days worth of reading took a serious amount of time.  It’s nice to know there are unscheduled days in reading plan so that you can catch up if needed.  But then again, maybe being encouraged to read EVERY day is something I need.

I’ll close this with a quote from Moroni, which sums up the purpose (for me) of The Book of Mormon.

Come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny ourselves of all ungodliness and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ.

I totally agree. The last time I read the Book of Mormon (in January) I read it in big chunks and got so much more out of it. However I just finished reading the New Testament again and thanks to my new commentary site, it took me two full weeks to get through Revelations. However, I think I actually learned and retained important insights and understanding of what has been for me in the past a very difficult reading. PS Can’t wait to see you.
