I’ve been reading this book Don’t get caught with your skirt down : a practical girl’s recession guide by Jill Keto.  There’s a lot of straight talking about becoming economically self-sufficient and “recession-proof”.  Haven’t quite finished it, but I highly recommend it for anyone who’s looking to cut expenses.  Most of it is practical stuff that you have probably heard before – the nice thing is that it’s all right there in one handy book.  Read More →

So, I’ve tried for years to get Tom to post on the family blog – but for whatever reasons he’s a no show here.  But he has finally decided to enter the game and you can find his blog at Schadenfreudessister (don’t ask!).  Also, you will not find his name anywhere – he has created an alternate identity (if you are a Steve Martin fan you might catch the reference).  Anyway – go look – he needs readers!!  Also, it won’t be about our family – he’s adament about making it random and anonymous.  Read More →

Haven’t posted in awhile – and I have no pictures – so I’ll warn you up front.  Still, I’m feeling the need to say something.  We’ve enjoyed a quiet Sunday afternoon.  Tom substituted in Primary for the 7 year olds.  All boys (5 of them).  I was there for sharing time but left him to fend for himself while I went off to Relief Society.  All I can say is that those boys sure were squirrelly in sharing time!!  I taught the “Teachings for our Times” lesson today – Elder Hale’s most recent talk on Provident Living.  It turned out to be a good hour – lots of interesting and inspiring comments and it was a talk that lent itself to turning to the scriptures, so we did quite a bit of that too.  I probably read and listened to this talk six or seven times over the last three...
