Why is it so hard to focus on the positives??  Despite the fact that Tom & I had a good weekend (see below) and Tom had an phone interview on Monday (which was an answer to a specific prayer) – in fact, despite that we are overflowing with blessings too numerous to count here – I still find myself easily depressed when something unexpected occurs. So – there was the window debacle (see below) which has necessitated more expenditures than we thought we’d have with the window installation.  Now there is the $530 fridge repair that we had to have done today.  That’s about two months worth of grocery money.  I’m so depressed!!  Why can’t appliance repairs be more affordable?  Our fridge has given us so much trouble already (the water doesn’t work, the ice maker is temperamental, the bottom...

So – we’ve come to the end of another General Conference and there were SO many great talks.  I found myself being reminded over and over again how grateful I am for the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Elder Holland’s talk on Christ’s crucifixion and the idea of being alone and how we are never alone was so moving.  Beyond that, I was inspired by all the talks about the temple and the importance of attending the temple more often.  This is my new goal – to get to the temple more often. Also, I have to say that the music was beautiful (as always) but I so enjoyed the choir’s arrangement of This is My Beloved Son.  This has been a favorite of mine for awhile – but it brought me to tears today.  So – what was your favorite talk?  Read More →

So, the tiling work is finished (except for sealing the grout, which won’t change the look at all).  Here’s some pictures. Now we just need to sand all the wood and do some painting – we’re thinking white trim paint.  So, what do you think??  Read More →

So, this gives me hope – my brother Alex, got laid off a couple of months ago and he got a job today!  We just have to stay positive and pray hard! and look hard! for work.  Tom’s been going stir-crazy a bit – if it would get warm he could work on putting our new windows in … but I think we’re up for more snow (though it was in the 70′s this afternoon!).  He does have an interview with a recruiting company  tomorrow – not for a particular job, but more to get him in their system so they can match him up with jobs as they come up.  The more people out there looking for him, the better, I say! Anyway, I’m really happy for Alex and Cynthia – I know this will take a lot of stress off their shoulders.  Couldn’t happen to nicer people!  Read More →

Despite the prodigious amounts of snow that fell last week, the snow was pretty much gone by Saturday (gotta love Denver weather!) and now we’re having another snowy day (though the forecast is for a measly 2-6 inches).  I personally am glad to have the snow – I’ve missed it this winter – but it is a little odd in April. On a completely different note, Tom and I decided we had waited long enough to tile the garden window in our kitchen.  So Tom pulled out the belt sander and evened out the “floor” while I broke up left over tile from previous projects.  Along the way we figured out how to remove the windows from their tracks (so we can paint them).  Then we laid out a wavy line of tumbled glass and flat glass “beads” (the kind you use in vases – I think).  Then we laid out the mud...
