I’ve been reading Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom and I have to ask myself, “What is this on-going illness trying to tell me about my life??” (that’s an inside joke to anyone who has read this massive tome on how our thoughts and feelings come out in the illnesses and symptoms our bodies display). Seriously, though, I’m really tired of being sick – after two plus weeks of coughing, being exhausted, and just generally feeling yucky, I’m really ready to be healthy again.  There are things that I so need to do but just don’t have the energy to cope with.  I have such admiration for people who deal with chronic illness and pain and still manage to carry on with life.  I carry on – but with a large dose of murmuring and complaining!! On another note, my kids (littles) are off-track...

So, I had big plans to blog while I was away from home – I even took my camera and fresh batteries.  Yeah, the camera never got used once.  All those cute pictures of my niece Kate – you’ll just have to imagine (or go see her parents’ blog – Weston & Erin).  Not to mention the pictures of the snow storm, or my younger son on one of his rages, or my daughter with her amazing block castle…  All those great memories, NOT captured for all time. Anyhow – two weeks ago I packed our Pathfinder with: two kids, aged 9 and 10 three duffles full of clothes (including a few grocery bags of mending – I did do ONE constructive thing at my parent’s home) two laptop computers (one is mine, one is a really old one my brother Alex passed on to us – loaded up with all the old kids games that...

I’m back home after spending a wonderful two weeks away from my regular life.  The only downside was missing Tom.  But we all have sacrifices to make …  My mom and dad graciously opened their home to me and my little kids for the week before Thanksgiving.  It was a wonderful vacation!  I got a great start (and finish) on quite a few Christmas gifts, got in LOTS of great conversation with Mom, Dad, and my sister Erin, got to play with Kate … It was just a good time.  Andrew and Haley glutted themselves on TV – we kept teasing them that their brains were oozing out of their ears! – but they did manage quite a few bike rides and were in seventh heaven when all the cousins began to arrive for Thanksgiving.  I think mostly they were happy to 1) be out of school and 2) be out of their own home. You may notice...

Tuesday morning Tom called me at work to say that his contract had ended (at least for now) and what did I think about going out to Utah for the 4th of July holiday?  I wasn’t happy to get this call – I wanted this contract to last longer and I didn’t think I wanted to make such a short trip (the kids started school the next Tuesday).  I said “no” and we hung up.  But I got to thinking and called Tom back and told him if he really wanted to go, then we should go.  Then, instead of just working a couple of hours, I worked the rest of the day to try and get things squared away for the week.  My kids weren’t all that happy to have to hang around the office so long, but I kept telling them that it was so we could go out of town, which helped.  Once we got home, I put them to work packing their stuff while...

Haven’t posted in awhile – and I have no pictures – so I’ll warn you up front.  Still, I’m feeling the need to say something.  We’ve enjoyed a quiet Sunday afternoon.  Tom substituted in Primary for the 7 year olds.  All boys (5 of them).  I was there for sharing time but left him to fend for himself while I went off to Relief Society.  All I can say is that those boys sure were squirrelly in sharing time!!  I taught the “Teachings for our Times” lesson today – Elder Hale’s most recent talk on Provident Living.  It turned out to be a good hour – lots of interesting and inspiring comments and it was a talk that lent itself to turning to the scriptures, so we did quite a bit of that too.  I probably read and listened to this talk six or seven times over the last three...
